世界之美就在台灣 (國家公園季刊 National Park )

2010年1月28號，太魯閣國家公園陽光正好，清風徐徐，綠水管理站前一株山櫻花提早綻放，像是在為這特別日子慶賀。上午10點，營建署長官、太魯閣國家公園的歷任處長、多位登山界的重量級人士、生態保育專家難得齊聚一堂，還有多位國外貴賓蒞臨現場，他們不辭辛苦、翻山越嶺來到太魯閣，只為了出席這場睽違23年的盛會。

愛山者的執著與堅持
23年前，一群登山界的前輩、在當年玉管處葉世文處長的邀請下，於玉山國家公園南安管理站舉辦第一屆國家公園登山研討會，在會議中萌生了成立登山學校的構想。正所謂萬事起頭難，登山學校的推動困難重重，計劃屢遭擱置。台灣擁有太魯閣、玉山及雪霸等3座山岳型的國家公園，遲遲卻未有一所專業的登山學校，實在是對不起喜愛登山運動的人們、也辜負了這片好山好水。

時光飛逝，轉眼間20多個年頭過去，當年的葉處長已成為今日的營建署署長，而登山界也有許多卓越新秀誕生。或許是因著登山者與生俱來的堅毅，遇到挫折不輕言放棄的精神，這擱淺多年的登山學校計畫，終於盼到了成立的一天。也許有人會問，身處在高山林立的台灣，爬山還需要學嗎？但其實真正的登山運動是獨門學問，絕對和在家附近郊山健行大不同。從自身的體能狀況檢測、體能訓練計畫、裝備使用到野外求生訓練等等、都需要專業人士指導，才能確保登山者的安全、維持自然環境。...<未完待續>

On Jan. 28, 2010, the sunshine and breeze at Taroko National Park (TNP) were perfect for the big day. At Lyushui Service Station, a Taiwan Cherry tree bloomed earlier just to celebrate it. At 10 A.M., top officers of CPAMI, current and former directors of TNP, VIPs from mountaineering circle, ecologists, and foreign guests took the trouble to go all the way up and gathered at Taroko only to attend this ceremony long anticipated for 23 years.

The Result of Mountain-lovers' Insistence                                                                                                                          23 years ago, a group of senior mountaineers invited by the then-director of YSNP Headquarters Shih-wen Yeh held NP's 1st mountaineering conference at Nanan of YSNP, and conceived the idea of such a school. As the beginning is always the hardest part, the progress of a mountaineering school had been constantly stalled. The lack of such a school had indeed wronged all the mountain lovers and the beautiful landscape in Taiw an, where three mountainous national parks dwell.

Time flies. 20 years has passed in a flash as Yeh has become Director-general of CPAMI and a new generation of mountaineers has appeared. Perhaps due to these mountain lovers' perseverance, this delayed program has finally come into being. Some may ask: Is mountain-climbing something needed to be learned? Well, real mountaineering is a unique skill totally different from casual hiking. Things like selfexamination of physical conditions, strength trainings, gadget usages, etc. must be taught by professionals to protect both the climbers and the Nature.
